03    TDC70 Campaign (2023) Competition identity for the TDC. In a time that increasingly demands value extraction and maximization of profits through emerging technologies and exploitative labor practices, typography and letterforms remain human-made, at once meant to compress temporal/cultural information while expressing the subtleties of the human voice. The TDC 70th competition celebrates mark-making as a human-specific tradition. Collaging together letterforms by different designers, locations, and durations, we created a visual language that lives and dies before our eyes. Reminding us not only of the impermanence of everything but also of the competition’s finality. Creative Direction, Graphic Design.

05    Trilce Book OTF (2018) A composite revival of 20th-century Elzevirs from Dutch, French and American foundries. A Transatlantic project, the alternates support Romance language vowels and special Quechua characters (the language of indigenous Andean people.) ‘Trilce’ is named after Peruvian Andean poet Cesar Vallejo’s namesake book of poems, published in Lima around the same time these typefaces were produced. ‘Trilce’, a word invented by Vallejo, strings together ‘triste’ (sad) and ‘dulce’ (sweet) and encapsulates the poet’s inclination towards poignant melancholy and a disavowal of the Spanish language by introducing quechua characters to his verses. 07    MIT Architecture Thresholds 48: Kin (2020) Thresholds is the annual peer-reviewed journal produced by the MIT Department of Architecture, held in over 150 university art & architecture libraries around the world. Thresholds 48: Kin takes on the address of the “other” as a project for scholarship, as a thickening of the plot, as an antidote to a hygienics of the term “kin”—to signal salvation from ecological and social downfalls, untethered from materialist analysis or the care of ethnographic work. The issue extends a hand towards other disciplines, as a nudge for rich crosspollination to highlight different forms of kin. Kin challenges the disciplines of art and architecture to consider the transforming social relations that are deeply entangled with spatial practice. Creative Direction, custom type, book design

11    After Image: Dismantling Race, Hegemony, and Representation, an Anthology (2019) Publication bringing together Critical Art Theory, Linguistics, Archaeology, Film Theory, Design critique, and Decolonization studies in an interdisciplinary curriculum for artists and designers engaged in cultural production while resisting racism, eurocentrism and cultural hegemony. The book dissects the origination of the category of ‘human’ and ‘non-human’ and is divided into three acts: Context, a visual interlude, and Praxis. Portraits in the publication appear to bleed through the paper onto the next folio, visualizing Ulysses Jenkin’s idea that “a mass of images” have enforced images of blackness and indigineity through media over time. Book design. Self-initiated.

12    In Conversation [with Sappho] Website (2020) Sappho was a musician, and the first female writer known to Western civilization, termed by Homer as “the Poet,” and by Plato as “the tenth Muse”. Though much of her personal life has been disputed, her extant lyrics are among the first writing about desire between women. Today, all of Sappho’s music is lost, and all but one poem of hers survived in completion, the rest lives on in fragments. Through this javascript-built site, users are invited to fill in the blanks and share their musings, as well as read the writings left behind by the last visitor. However, the memory of the site is rather short-term. As a new user records a new memory, the old is forgotten, in a writing platform that is as ephemeral as the poet’s original verses. Self-initiated.
