A composite revival of 20th-century Elzevirs from Dutch, French and American foundries. A Transatlantic project, the alternates support Romance language vowels and special Quechua characters (the language of indigenous Andean people.) ‘Trilce’ is named after Peruvian Andean poet Cesar Vallejo’s namesake book of poems, published in Lima around the same time these typefaces were produced. ‘Trilce’, a word invented by Vallejo, strings together ‘triste’ (sad) and ‘dulce’ (sweet) and encapsulates the poet’s inclination towards poignant melancholy and a disavowal of the Spanish language by introducing quechua characters to his verses. Self-initiated.
